A Few Words From Peter Foyle Our Worshipful Master for 2008 |
My name is Peter Foyle and as Master of Royal Union Lodge for 2008 it is a pleasure to welcome you to our website.
A few facts about myself - I was born in Gloucester. My grandfather Tom Foyle founded The Foyles Furnishing Company with shops in Gloucester, Cheltenham and Stroud. Tom Foyle was also a Freemason.
I was educated at the Kings School, Gloucester and Malvern College. On leaving School I was articled to a firm of Chartered Surveyors and have remained in that profession. I am married with three children and two grandchildren (with more on the way). I am a staunch supporter of Gloucester Rugby Club. I also enjoy tennis and motorcycling.
Today, with a membership in the 60’s the Lodge attracts a fair number of younger members which undoubtedly accounts for its vibrancy. Their value in ensuring the future health of the Lodge is not lost on the senior Brethren who give only the lightest touch on the guiding tiller, having due regard to the need to balance tradition with the changing life-styles, commitments and demands of the present day living and working of the Brethren, young and old alike.
In essence the Lodge endeavours to engender enjoyment and satisfaction in its members through well disciplined and executed ceremonies, which extend to the welcoming Festive Board and a variety of social events all bonded with respect and fraternal love. If the number of our valued joining members is anything to go by, it is felt that the Lodge must be in good heart. |
