Royal Union Clay Shoot

October 2010

As membership steward I had for some time been trying to find something I could do that would appeal to the younger Master Masons when Dave Hillier suggested having a Clay shoot which seemed an excellent idea.

A couple of days later he had organised the venue and the date.

We had decided it should be exclusively for MM’s and the places were quickly filled.

The MM’s allowed the Director of Ceremonies who they thought could demonstrate he was human outside the Lodge and me to be present but this was strictly by invitation only.

MM’s from Cheltenham and Gloucester Lodges join us this we hope will develop and widen the fraternal circle amongst local Lodges.

Dave’s wife Nicki (Hillier) and my wife Tricia prepared the catering and I was the onsite chef, the day started with port and homemade cake everyone pitching in to do something.

It was quite a family affair with Chris Hillier who is not a Mason, (yet), providing safety training and coaching on each of the traps and Dave’s two sons also helped.

The highlight of the day was the two top guns Julian Capewell and Dave Hargreaves both of Royal Union having the final shoot-out for Champion of the Day.

It was felt they had to be handicapped, thus one had to wear a hard hat and the other some furry dice however it was the Master Masons who won the day as Julian took the title in style.

Everyone had a great day together and £450 was raised.
